We cannot think about music today without paying tribute to the city which
gave us the very rhythm and sound of the emerging twentieth century.

From 1880 onwards New Orleans heard African drums mix with classical
instruments to create a musical revolution that was unique in its time.

One of the earliest American styles to emerge from this innovation was
ragtime piano and the bars and bordellos in this port city were soon filled
    with the new sound.

Slavery also brought the river Blues to the Big Easy, which then mixed with
local marching band brass, producing Jazz. It is no exaggeration to say New
Orleans has supplied the basis of today's Jazz, Blues, Funk and Rock.

Chuck Farmer will give us a taste of the Blues and Jazz traditions of New
Orleans - which also serve as monuments to the struggle of its people for a
better life. A tribute to New Orleans's music is appropriate to the unique
history, traditions and lifestyle of this city, and to its people in the
    aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Chuck Farmer was born in Oklahoma and was performing in local clubs as a
    teenager.

After focusing on the piano as his instrument of choice, at the age of
twenty he established himself in New Orleans as a full-time professional
musician, appearing regularly at Tipintina's, The Famous Door, The Dream
Palace, Tylers, and of course - The New Orleans Jazz Festival.

Playing solo (as well as in ensemble with artists such as Charles Neville,
James Stafford, Wayne Bennett, Antoine Domino, amongst others), his
engagements also took him on frequent tours across the United States and
    beyond

Chuck's musical home is New Orleans, but his Spiritual home is Greece - a
country he first visited on tour in the mid-1980s. His love for the country
and its people has also provided a source of inspiration to this very
American composer and musician, who continues to perform here and abroad.
